Choosing the Right Colour Palette for Your Bedroom

The bedroom is the one room in the house that has to do less, not more. Where a living room can carry bold colour and pattern, a bedroom generally rewards restraint — its job is to help you switch off.

Our default framework is a muted, warm neutral base — soft beiges, greiges or gentle clay tones — layered with one deeper accent colour used sparingly, in a piece of wall art, a mirror frame or a single accent wall. Cooler blues and greens work well for those who want a more restful, spa-like feel, but should lean muted rather than saturated to avoid feeling cold at night.

Texture matters as much as colour in a neutral scheme — a woven wall hanging, a textured wall panel, warm layered lighting — these add depth without introducing more colour to compete with rest. Save your most saturated, energising colours for spaces you pass through, not the one you fall asleep in.
